Hi, I’m Ashley!

I am that teacher who didn’t set out to be a teacher…my plan was to be a social worker. But I got a glimpse into the education world while working at a Children’s Advocacy Center and I thought, “WOW! I could really make an impact in kids’ lives if I became a teacher!” I thought that because I would get to be there with them every day, I could be that solid, trusted adult in their lives that could help them through whatever it was they were dealing with.

Hi, I’m Ashley!

I could really make an impact in kids’ lives if I became a teacher!” I thought that because I would get to be there with them every day, I could be that solid, trusted adult in their lives that could help them through whatever it was they were dealing with.

So, I went back to school, got an alternative teaching certificate, took all of the state licensing tests, and began teaching. However, I realized pretty quickly that not all teachers thought the way that I did. Some never even had the opportunity learn the things that I did about building relationships with children and how their experiences impact their behavior.

I was disappointed when I realized just how much teacher-prep programs and the education system have let us down. We aren’t provided with enough time or training to learn about all the benefits a positive classroom culture can bring or figure out how to make that work in everyday life.

That’s why I founded Culture Over Content. I want to bridge that gap for middle school teachers.

My Mission

It’s my mission to provide middle school teachers with the resources they need to establish a positive classroom culture, without feeling overwhelmed.
